Huntsville Info
Huntsville, Ontario is a vibrant community of over 18,000 people in Canada's favorite cottage region: Muskoka. This website seeks to connect users with the many fine businesses and community organizations in the area.
Brief History of Huntsville, Ontario
Captain George Hunt (1830-1880) was credited as founder of Huntsville, Ontario. He was a British Army Officer who oversaw the construction of the highway and railroad and the subsequent incorporation of the town. He later settled in Huntsville and lived there until his death of pneumonia.
At a later point, a rail link made it an important destination for travellers. Ferrys shuffled inhabitants and tourists around Huntsvilles many Lakes and rivers.
Today Huntsville has become a vital part of Muskoka's largely tourist based economy. In 2008, it was announced that Huntsville would host the 2010 G8 summit, possibly placing Huntsville in the spectrum of world events.
*Update: We are proud to launch the Huntsville, ON G8 Summit Informational Page . It is currently under construction and we would love to get help and/or comments criticisms.
